The Warm Front-End Electronics (WFEE) Demonstrator Model was delivered to CNES on November 6, 7 and 8, 2023. Supply of the WFEE has been the responsibility of the Astroparticle and Cosmology (APC) laboratory.

On Wednesday November 8, 2023, ESA’s Science Programme Committee (SPC) formally and unanimously approved the restart of industrial studies for the Athena mission, still considered as a flagship mission.

Our colleague Graziella Branduardi-Raymont – Member of the Athena/X-IFU Science Advisory Team – passed away unexpectedly last week.

The X-IFU Consortium meeting #16 will take place in Toulouse on June 19th-23rd in hybrid format. It will provide the opportunity to review X-IFU as we are cruising through the reformulation phase of Athena.

Following the necessity to bring the ESA Cost at Completion below €1.3 billion, the Athena mission and the X-IFU have entered a reformulation phase in 2022.
